Security updates

Since a few months back, we switched to using letsencrypt certificates.
All users are recommended to switch to using TLS over port 6697 and enable certificate validation to make sure your connection is not being intercepted.

All leaf servers has certificates for these hostnames:

  • irc.zenet.org
  • ssl.zenet.org
  • irc6.zenet.org
  • ipv6.zenet.org

We have also dropped support for SSLv2 and v3, you now need TLS1.0 or later. Make sure to upgrade your client if you’re having issues connecting securely.

There has also been some work around combating spam bots – this should hopefully not affect regular users.

The client server change

One of our client servers stargate.se.eu.zenet.org is no more.
The admin Spirre decided that he no longer can provide a stable connection for the client server as he can with one of the hubs for ZEnet.

The client server stargate.* is still linked but not in our round bin and will close at anytime.

As a result one of our netadmins stept in and setup a new client server akatsuki.nl.eu.zenet.org hosted by bonan.
The server is hosted in the Netherlands and will be our first server from that country.

We hope this new server will continue to provide us with a stable connection for our beloved users on ZEnet.
